December 2013 Sim of the Month - Fred Fernberger

 Fred Fernberger
Sim of the Month: December 2013

(NOTE:  If you have never done a Sim of the Month Challenge before and would like to know more, you can find more information on the Sim of the Month Challenge Page.)

Fred Fernberger was never what you would call a "Normal" person. A day dreamer, Fred has always had difficulty remaining grounded in reality. To him, life should be a fairy tale, with happy endings for everybody. Unfortunately for Fred, life isn't a fairy tale and up until now, his own life did not look like it was headed for a happy ending.

A lonely man, Fred dreamed one day of settling down with a loving companion and a loyal pet. The typical dream for a man tired of living the bachelor lifestyle. Fred's problem, however, was that he carried his fairytale mentality with him into the dating scene. Fred's self-proclaimed "Noble" advances were met with rejection after soul-crushing rejection. The last straw was at Thanksgiving when his mother nagged him for the 7th year in a row, "Fred, normal people do not think the way you do! If you are ever going to make any friends or settle down, there must be a change!"

For the first time, Fred agreed with his mother. He would make a major change to his behavoir to improve the outlook of his social life. Did he tone down his fantastic outlook and stop treating everything like a fairy tale story?

His change was simply to give up on his fellow humans completely and seek the company of the supernatural beings that made their home in his beloved fairy tales.

  1. Download Fred Fernberger here:
  2. Import him into any home or empty lot he can afford. It can be pre-furnished if you want. The only thing you can't do is merge him into an existing household.
  3. Attempt to achieve the goals in the fewest days possible. Your score is the number of days it takes you, with a lower score being better!
Game Versions Needed:

  1. Sims 3 Base Game
  2. Sims 3 Pets (to get the Unicorn)
  3. Sims 3 Supernatural (for the Supernatural Spouse)
  1. Fred must marry a non-human. This can be ANY supernatural type including aliens, ghosts, robots among many others. They may be male or female.
  2. Fred must fulfill his lifetime wish: adopt a unicorn and have them join the household.
When both of these conditions are fulfilled, the challenge is complete.

  1.  You may not merge Fred into any active household.
  2. You may not merge any other household into Fred's via the neighborhood view. The only way to add members to Fred's household is via in-game social interactions.
  3. No Console level cheats (Such as Motherlode)
All other supernatural powers, reward objects, reward perks and the like are free game.

Some updates and some sad news...

First off, I hope all of our American readers had a great Thanksgiving yesterday.  Also, Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!

Secondly.... I guess I may as well give the sad news....

My Sims 2 game seems to be a goner.

It hasn't been able to load without an error (a completely blank error by the way) for the last 2 weeks.  I'm not sure if the CD was scratched or if something else happened, but I have been unable to get it to load.  I had installed 2 other games in that time and I thought maybe they caused a conflict and deleted them, but that didn't help the matter.  So it looks like my Sims 2 Legacy is done for... at least for the moment.  If I can figure out what happened with it and can get it working again, I will try to start it up.  However, I am not hopeful.  This tends to be the trend for me.  I get super involved in a Sims 2 Legacy only to have a glitch or game error completely destroy it.

I'm pretty upset about it.  I really was loving my Legacy family.  My chapters only touched on them, but I had gotten them up to Generation 5 in the game.  I am not sure I have the energy to fight to try to get the game working again.  I may just move on to The Sims 3 and work on a new Legacy there.  That way too, I can start being more active on the Sims 3 forums to help answer any questions people may have.  Right now I've been out of the Sims 3 loop for so long that I don't always have an answer (and same for Pinstar).

Speaking of Pinstar...

He is currently working on a Sim of the Month Challenge and it should be up in December at some point. I am hoping, too, to get him to finally make his first post on here.  He's been busy with work and the Sim of the Month Challenge, so he hasn't had much time to focus on the site.  We decided when we started this blog that I'd be the one that was in charge of it and doing the majority of the writing, but I would like him to post every now and then.

We have a few other ideas that we are tossing around for the blog as well.  We are really hoping to get ourselves back into the community and become more active again.

For now, I am going to get to work on my Sims 3 Legacy.  With the Steam Fall Sales going right now, I was able to get University for more than 50% off.  I haven't gotten Island Paradise or Into the Future, but I'm not entirely sure I will use them for my Legacy anyway.  Has anyone used them for Legacies yet?  If so... what did you think?

ImaginingMystic's Legacy Story - Chapter 3

Here we are again.  After the arrival of Geneva and Aaron's second boy, I promptly sent them back to the bed to try for yet another baby.  No rest for the weary in this family!

Geneva:  So... I guess we should get to it, huh?

Aaron:  Yeah, I suppose.  Though I'm having fun staring creepily at our Overlord.

Geneva:  Don't do that, you may end up a Zombie or something.

Nice foreplay guys.

Anyway, they did the deed, baby lullaby played, and that means Baby #3 is currently baking.

Sims 4 Set to Launch in Fall of 2014!

EA has announced that the Sims 4 will be launching in the fall of 2014.  This is a bit later than their original plan of "early 2014", but I'm not really complaining.  A later launch date means that they are giving themselves more time for testing which will -hopefully- alleviate some bugs (and we all know the Sims can be a buggy game!).

The game is now also available for pre-order.  You can do so either through the official Sims website or through another online shopping site such as Amazon.

One thing about the Sims 4 that has me pretty excited is Emotions.  I'm really curious as to how these will play out in the Legacy Challenge.  Information on The Sims 4 can be found at

I really liked the Trait system in Sims 3 and I am glad to see that it will be making it's return in the Sims 4.

I can't give any details yet as to how the Legacy Challenge will work in The Sims 4, but I am hoping to get some information out soon.  Pinstar is reading through some information now, and will hopefully have something to share with you all soon.  It won't be in-depth rules, but it might be a glimmer of what you can expect when the new game launches.

So now a question for our readers:

What would YOU like to see in the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge?  Was there anything specific in the previous challenges that you'd really prefer wouldn't be in the new one, or maybe something you really loved that you want to see again?  We'd love to hear from you!

ImaginingMystic's Legacy Story - Chapter 1

Well, I've already introduced you to my new Legacy Founder, Geneva Legacy and given you all of her information, so now I think it's time I got into writing the actual story.  To see which handicaps and rules I am following check out the introduction.

I thought I would start off with giving you a tour of the house....

Ok done.

Looking for some fan suggestions for links!

Since Pinstar and I have been a bit out of the loop from the Sims Community for the last couple of years we thought it might be a good idea (and thank you to Polly for the suggestion) to ask the fans of the Legacy Challenge to submit to us any Legacy/Apocalypse/Sim of the Month sites and stories that they follow so that we can link to them here.  We'd also love any Custom Content sites that you visit frequently as we'd love to link to them as well.

If you have any suggestions, please either leave a comment here, or email me at

Thank you!

ImaginingMystic's Legacy Story - Introduction

Well, it's been a few years (several, in fact) since I've attempted to write a story for a Sims 2 Legacy Family.  In spite of being married to the challenge's creator I've never actually successfully completed a Legacy Challenge.  I intend to finally remedy that.

I decided to follow the Sims 2 Legacy Challenge Advanced Rules as I think that adding more challenges to my Legacy family will help keep me interested longer than the 3 Generations I usually make it until I get bored and the family is swimming in Simoleons.  I will also be using Handicaps.

Rather than dive head first into Chapter 1, I decided to give a brief introduction to my founder.  I am still working on writing Chapter 1 and hope to have it up within the next week or so.

This is Geneva Legacy (I plan on following a European city naming theme).  She is an outgoing Leo that enjoys meeting new people and making friends.  I decided to make my founder a Popularity Sim as it's one of my least favorite Aspirations (next to Pleasure Sims), so I figured if I started off with an aspiration I don't like, it will help me to get it out of the way so that I -hopefully- don' have to deal with too many more of them.

Welcome to the Official Legacy Challenge Blog!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the new Official Legacy Challenge Blog!  My name is Christina, but some of you will probably know me as ImaginingMystic.  If you don't know who I am, I am Pinstar's wife. We met through the Sims 2 back in 2006.  We have both been pretty silent in the Sims world over the last several years as we have been busy starting a real life Legacy of our own.  Pinstar and I have two little boys, Alex is 3 and Cooper is 1 1/2.  As you can imagine we have our hands full.  That being said, I didn't want to keep neglecting the gaming community that brought the two of us together in the first place so I decided to start up a blog where I could have all of the Legacy Challenge rules organized in one central location (as well as the rules for the Apocalypse Challenge and the Sim of the Month Challenge).  I also plan on posting the story for my current Sims 2 Legacy Family as I play it (though I don't anticipate these updates being all that frequent as I am busy with our real family) as well as guest posts from other Legacy Challenge fans.

As many of you know, Pinstar has not been available to answer Legacy Challenge questions on the Sims 3 site for quite some time now.  So if you have questions, you may ask them here in the comments, or email them to me at and I will ask him and get back to you.

Finally, as news of the Sims 4 starts being released, Pinstar plans on posting his plans for the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge here as well.

If there is anything else that you would like to see here, please let me know!

Happy simming!
